City SC Posse - Ep 9: We Can Do It!

This week on City SC Posse, we’re calling our shot.
After a frustrating start to the season, we’re previewing Matchday 5 with one clear belief: this is the week St. Louis City SC finally gets it done.
We break down the expected lineup, key injuries, and the potential return of Löwen, which could completely change the energy both on the field and in the stadium. We also dig into what’s really been holding this team back, including some blunt thoughts on lineup decisions and players who just aren’t getting it done.
There’s real excitement around players like Cordova getting a full run, and a growing demand from fans to see more of the younger guys who actually brought energy and chemistry when they got their chance.
We also lock in our official score prediction, betting angles, and what needs to happen for City to walk away with three points.
Optimism is back… but it’s on a short leash.
Bright: All right, right into the Match Day 5 preview. We got the Mizzou game coming up here in a little bit, so we gotta get to watch that. But you've got the game this week, Kev, so I'm still in Florida between episodes here. No change in my â location, so I'm still in Florida. So you got the game, and trying to bring home a win here.
Kev: Yeah, it's going to be the first one of the season. We're definitely going to win this one. Probably two goals. â think two nothing, two nothing game. Calling it right now early in the episode. We're going to see it two nothing, two no. â And we're going to have a lot of fun down there at the stadium.
Bright: up And we're gonna say a couple of things. We'll talk about our bets on the next episode, let you guys know if we won or what worked, what didn't work. I am gonna be watching the game from Florida. So I'm an hour ahead, it'll start around 8.30 Eastern time. Right around the time we're putting the kids to bed normally, so we should be back from the restaurant done with ice cream, put the kids to bed, and then boom, I can sit back. All right, who you taking?
Kev: Well, I'm taking â my wife, my wife to the game. We're gonna leave the kids at home, you know, get the babysitter, gonna go enjoy the day. Hopefully not have to battle too much traffic. You know, we've got the tournament in downtown on top of the soccer game. So we'll be battling some, some people for some mighty fine parking, I'm sure. We're paying the big bucks for a lot though.
Bright: the game. You'll be there. You'll be there with your wife checking out that 80s band. You know we got the win probability 51%. This is going to be the week. The belief is there. Maybe we'll get some players back. You know maybe Hardo will get a goal. Maybe Luvin comes in and the crowd goes crazy and something happens. â But I got high hopes for this one man. High hopes. Yep. Yep. Yep. Right, right. Well, at least no Mizzou game tomorrow night because they're playing in St. Louis, but they're playing tonight. So you won't have the Mizzou traffic per se, but definitely the tournament traffic. What's the weather supposed to be like? It's hot tomorrow, isn't it?
Kev: We'll see. That is my bet. I found it. The ancient handicap. Going back to it. I'm going to do a St. Louis SC at the .75. Maybe the .5, which is giving you the double bet to where if we win by a goal, you get the full. Oh man, it's hot. It's like, it's gonna be 88 degrees or something as a high. It felt like it was the same way earlier today. So plenty of heat, not gonna be freezing like the last time I was there, right? Not gonna need the winter coat. We can hang that up, go out with the jerseys and the kits and enjoy some nice weather and good food. Good game.
Bright: Yeah. So that just means we have to win by one goal. Yeah, guess we'll see how that impacts the game, impacts the play. Certainly it's early in the year. mean, our guys should be used to that as far as the temperature goes, but it's a little bit hotter than I'm sure they were expecting at this point this season. But 88, not too bad. It's not like, you know, 90 and above starts getting real hot. Hopefully it's not too humid just yet. I don't know.
Kev: the full pool of money in that minus 115. If we tie, â then you lose half of what you bet you get, you your return, whatever it is, whatever it is you got. So there it is. There's my bet for the week.
Bright: All right, that's not bad. Well, we'll have to see how it pans out. And â good luck, city. This is the week we're gonna bring one home. And we'll come back at you, back from the home studio next week. We'll do the recap and then we'll preview â match day, what it'll be, match day six. I feel like we're rolling right along here.
Kev: See ya. No, it's not not humid at all. It feels so nice. Honestly, they can't beat that for March or it's March 20th. Get out of here. This is phenomenal. Yes, we are. All right. Catch everybody later.
Bright: First day of spring. Well good. Well, okay, but there's a couple of things. So we kind of touched on this â last week â or in our last episode. No toy shirt. He is out. Out with an ankle injury. yeah. Also, we didn't really, we had some people that were taken off of the list. So, Louvin is not on the... Alright, I'll talk to you later.
Kev: Incaliger.
Bright: the injured list or the not playing list. So in theory, he is available for tomorrow night's game. Now, I don't know if he'll be in the lineup. I don't know if he'll be starting or on the bench, but certainly â if he is on the field at all, even if it's just during warmups or if he comes on as a sub, I can only imagine the support that he's gonna have from this fan base.
Kev: â yeah, from the fan base for sure. It's really cool that he's going to be at the game. I assume. Obviously I don't know anything. â But if they haven't marked him injured or out, I assume he's on the bench, right? He'll be there.
Bright: Yeah, yeah. I mean, certainly in theory, â I don't see why not. You know, and obviously it's a tough time, but sometimes when you have a situation like this in your life, and that could be anybody's life, one of the things that you do is you dive into work. You you dive into something that takes your mind off of, you know, what's going on.
Kev: I must have missed something. Yeah.
Bright: personal life and of course soccer, I nothing better than a sport or you know something that you've been passionate about your whole life. It's not like you're going into the office. I mean you are going and playing â the game that you love and...
Kev: Yeah. Well, you know, and his teammates are probably, you know, close like family too, you know? So you're kind of around close friends, family, and that support system helps tremendously. And then you get obviously the fan base in and around you too. just, I'm sure that's uplifting at a time that, you know, he needs it. So.
Bright: Sure, sure. Yeah, well, you know, and again, I think he would certainly make an impact on the field. â And I think he would get some great support from the fans and that can hype up the team. So, Luvin, we know what he brings, the quality that he brings on the field and I think the fan base could add a little spark to the team as well. And if Luvin comes in, then Hardell can play a little higher. He can in theory play up top with Becher â or Cordova. and kind of fill that gap from Toy Shirt.
Kev: I think we see Cordova up there at the start of the game. I'm kind of excited about it to see what he brings, you know, with more time on the field from a start. So excited about that. That's the big change that I'm looking for. And then obviously, you know,
Bright: Yeah, see if he can make an impact. Yeah. Yeah.
Kev: you hate to bring it up again, but while I'm out on the wing. Time to sit them. Let's sit them.
Bright: Yuck. If he is in the starting 11, if he even plays, tomorrow night, at some point you gotta say, you know what, the Wallum experiment has failed. And we talked about this in the last episode too, the fans have turned on Wallum. And if he keeps getting play time, they're gonna turn on Coach Demay and the coaching staff and all of that. Ray, the sporting director, it needs to be solved. He could maybe be an 80 minute guy that you bring in, in the 80th minute I mean, you know, you're up a goal or something. I don't know. Pompeo needs to get some more play time. And even if it's not Pompeo, I mean, you could look at Joyner. You know, I think... â
Kev: It's a one.
Bright: The fans are really asking that Joyner and McSorley also get some more play time. They seem to play well together. They were only on the field for five minutes in the last episode, but they connected a couple of times.
Kev: One more time. It was some of the most exciting the last episode. I like that one. You had a last game. â Scripted TV, I hope. Or a last episode. I gotcha. Yeah, no, was some of the most exciting part in all of the game. When those two were on the field working together, I thought they played tremendously while they had their mitts. The chemistry seems to be there between those two. So, yeah, I'd like to see both of them get
Bright: Our last episode. Sorry.
Kev: more playing time. I think Joyner was just called up to the under 20 team, right? So I don't know how that, yes. So I don't know how that impacts it. I assume that we're not gonna see him because of it, but yeah, just be aware of that.
Bright: â I did not see that. Well, I don't know. depends on when reporting to camp and everything would be. â That's awesome, of course, to see. I've kind of checked out a little bit on my vacation. I haven't been able to follow everything. â
Kev: location.
Bright: I mean that's cool for him and certainly gets him some more experience so not gonna complain about that. We'll just have to see what happens. Fall of Fall, he's also not in the injured list or anything so in theory he could be back so we'd have to see if he gets any play time. â know, Totland, again, he might be available even if he's not available to start. You know, he could be back to come back and, know, because Roscoe, he's all right. But again, I feel like Totland gives you a little bit more offense â potential. And we know we need that right now.
Kev: out. I think Totlin's still out. I think I saw a tweet saying he was still injured.
Bright: Well, it wasn't on the list, but I don't know. We'll see.
